She’s Running Again! Support Monika & Team Grayson as They Take on Sydney
Sarasota, you know her, you love her, and you know that when she laces up her running shoes, big things happen!
Monika Oberer is officially back in marathon training mode. After successfully conquering the 6 World Major Marathons in 2024 (Chicago, New York, Boston, London, Berlin, and Tokyo), a brand-new destination has been added to the world stage: Sydney, Australia.
When the news broke, our long-time friend Grayson had just one request: “Monika, go run for me one more time!” And of course, she said yes.

Training in the Heat for Team Grayson
With only 7 weeks to prepare for the Sydney Marathon, Monika and Woodford are putting in the hard work during the dark, humid, early morning hours to get race-ready. They are running as Team Grayson Takes on Sydney, a cause that many in our Sarasota community have generously supported over the years.
This race is a push to create global awareness and raise crucial funds to combat Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a condition affecting 1 in 3,500 to 5,000 newborn boys globally.
A Local Update on a True Hero
While Grayson faces increasing physical challenges each month, his determination never wavers. In fact, he has recently started volunteering right here in our backyard at Mote Marine Laboratory twice a week! His joy, resilience, and refusal to give up are exactly what will carry Monika through every single mile in Sydney.

Let’s Help Them Hit the $9,000 Goal!
The fundraising goal for this campaign is $9,000.00, and they need our community's help to get there. As Monika always says, "Thank you for every dollar our team receives!"
Sarasota has always been a community that lifts each other up. Let’s rally together once again to back Monika, Woodford, and Grayson on this incredible international journey.
